On the Ground of the Ukrainian Front is the continuation of the stories from Ukrainians who defend their country during the Russian invasion following on from First Hand Accounts From the Ukrainian Frontline. These accounts are recorded in the later stages of the full-scale war, when the initial shock has passed and the reality of a prolonged conflict has taken hold. If the first book captures the moment of choice - the decision to stand, to fight, to survive - this work explores what comes after. It is about endurance and the often invisible effort required to continue. The narrators speak from within a different phase of war. Exhaustion, routine, and loss become part of everyday life. Yet within this heaviness, they search for something that allows them to go on - a new meaning, a redefined sense of self, a deeper understanding of the reality. These are not only stories of war, but of transformation. Of how a person changes when the extraordinary becomes ordinary. Together, these voices form a more complex portrait of the defender - not only as someone who answered the call, but as someone who continues to carry it.
