Retrospecta 49: Yale School Of Architecture 2025-26

Retrospecta 49 collects design and research work from Yale School of Architecture from 2025 to 2026.

Architecture is often described through buildings, drawings, and ideas. Yet architectural education is equally shaped by the people who bring those works into being. Yale School of Architecture is a place where individuals arrive from different geographies, disciplines, and cultural traditions, each carrying distinct ways of seeing, speaking, drawing, and making. Within Rudolph Hall, these perspectives intersect, overlap, and transform one another.

Retrospecta 49 takes these moments of encounter as its point of departure. This volume is organized around three recurring conditions of that experience: Arriving, Becoming, and Departing. These are not simply markers of an academic calendar, but states that define architectural education at every scale. Arriving speaks to entering unfamiliar places, communities, and ways of thinking. Becoming traces the gradual process through which ideas are tested, challenged, refined, and reimagined through making, discussion, and critique. Departing marks the moment when research, projects, and relationships extend beyond Rudolph Hall—when the work developed here enters broader conversations while creating space for new arrivals to begin their own journeys.
