Beshert - Destiny

When Harriet "Hart" Goodman Hoffman set out to learn more about her maternal grandfather, she never imagined the path would lead from a single tombstone in Louisville, Kentucky, to the walled Jewish quarter of Mainz, Germany, and through more than three centuries of Jewish family history.

Drawing on decades of genealogical research, family letters, historical records, photographs, and archival documents, she reconstructs the lives of the Lorch and Metzler families as they faced persecution, emigrated to America, and built new lives while preserving their heritage.

More than a genealogy, BESHERT – Destiny: The Lorch & Metzler Legacy is a story of resilience, discovery, and the remarkable connections that link generations across time and continents.

The first volume in the BESHERT – Destiny series, this richly illustrated book preserves one family's history so it will not be forgotten—and invites readers to consider the stories waiting within their own families.
