Macarthur's Daughters

The three daughters of John and Elizabeth Macarthur, Lizzie, Mary and Emmeline, are the most envied and eligible women in early colonial Sydney, in what became the richest family in the country. Yet they are also the most pitied; their brilliant, but hopelessly flawed, father creates havoc and heartbreak for them at every turn.

While their four brothers are sent off for a proper education in England, and John is banished to London for all the trouble he's caused, the girls dream about their own futures, in between helping their mother keep the family fortunes afloat. But it's a constant battle as hopes flourish, are foiled, and fade.

These three young women are determined, just like their steadfast matriarch, to find good husbands, raise happy families and make their mark on the world. So why, oh why, is their headstrong father continually meddling in their affairs and causing such agonising problems?

This is the touching, and thrilling, tale of three young women growing up in an iconic household in Australia's history - and their struggles to strive, survive and thrive.

'Three remarkable sisters in an iconic family empire fighting for their own destinies in a world ruled by men. I couldn't put it down.' Nicole Alexander, bestselling author of The Limestone Coast
