Manuel Ponce embraced a wide variety of musical influences, from post-Romanticism to modernism and nationalism. This fifth volume in the series showcases these elements in the neo-Classical miniature Pavana, the sensitive but impassioned Mazurkas, the evocative Serenatas, and the colourful Afro-Cuban dance score Kinebombo. The Waltzes are suffused with grace, simplicity and intimacy, whereas the early en una desolación alludes to his time of anxiety as a student in Venice. Álvaro Cendoya, the world's foremost exponent of Ponce's piano music, has again consulted the composer's autograph scores and first editions for this recording.
