What Endures

Founded in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, Texas A&M University began with just forty students, six faculty members, and a mission to educate young men in agriculture and mechanics. Over the following 150 years, the institution evolved into one of the largest public universities in the United States, enrolling more than 81,000 students and counting more than half a million former students among its global community.
