Judgy Wudgy was a Bear

Judgy Wudgy Was a Bear is a picture book about what happens when a little bear's sharp words push everyone away and what it feels like to stand alone in the middle of a crowd. When a thunderstorm frightens the friends and they huddle together, Judgy Wudgy is left standing on the outside. But Foxy Roxy, Kitty Cat, and the Bouncy Birds do something he didn't expect: they let
him in anyway.

For parents, caregivers, and teachers, Judgy Wudgy opens a real conversation. Children this age understand far more than we assume. They know that Judgy chose differently and that they can too. A discussion guide at the end of the book helps parents and teachers ask the right questions.

Designed to support Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), this is the first book of the Judgy Wudgy series, following these same characters into new situations where empathy, friendship, and belonging are tested and practiced.

Perfect for bedtime reading, classroom read-aloud, and gifting to early readers ages 3-6.

When we stop judging others by how they appear, we open our hearts and bring new friends near!

Written and illustrated by E.D. Harris with warm, expressive artwork and a cast of deeply relatable animal characters, this book gives children ages 3-6 a story about the real cost of judgment, and the surprising ease of choosing kindness instead. The book is inspired by the imagination and creative collaboration of her son, David M. Harris who co-authored the story concept and thematic development.
