Latin American Geographies explores how climate, landscapes, and environments have worked together with the historical, cultural, social, political, and economic aspects of Latin America to create the distinctive societies that define the region.

Covering Mexico, Central America, the Hispanic Caribbean, the Andes, the Amazon, the Southern Cone, and Brazil, the book combines regional geography, spatial analysis, and historical interpretation to explain the emergence and development of Latin America from the colonial period to the present. Through case studies such as the Mexican and Andean highlands, the Cuban Revolution, Amazonian deforestation, and contemporary migration crises, the text connects environmental conditions with social inequality, political conflict, cultural identity, and globalization. The book questions the very idea of ‘Latin America,’ exploring how the region emerged historically as a construct rooted in shared colonial legacies, independence movements, and collective imaginaries rather than simply geographic location.
