From the womb-humankind's first fully enclosed space-to houses, cities, and nations, architecture has always sought to reproduce that primordial experience of being enveloped. Yet in the context of what Zygmunt Bauman calls liquid modernity-marked by the transformation of family structures, the restructuring of intimate relationships, and the penetration of digital technology into private life-the traditional notion of home is no longer a fixed location, but a temporarily emergent structure. AUTHOR: Yuqiao Guo is a contemporary artist, painter, and architect. Born in Beijing and currently based in London, she earned a dual bachelor's degree in Studio Art and Environmental Analysis from Pomona College, California, USA, in 2015, and a Master of Architecture degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 2019. Her oil paintings have been exhibited and collected in the United Kingdom, the United States, and other regions. Working at the intersection of architecture and painting, Yuqiao Guo takes the body as a dwelling and memory as material.
