Panic Shack - Colored Vinyl

Panic Shack formed in 2018 as a middle finger to the “members-only club” atmosphere of the indie/punk scene—not only because of its male dominance, but also because it makes making music seem unattainable and—worse yet—boring. The carefree approach gives the music of the four women and their drummer the same effect as opening a bottle of Prosecco—explosive, intoxicating, and delightfully chaotic. The quintet quickly made a name for themselves live (Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Green Man, End Of The Road, SXSW, opening for Bob Vylan & Soft Play), and the pink vinyl of their 2022 EP sold out in no time.

In collaboration with producer Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Perfume Genius, Yard Act), Panic Shack expand their bold punk sound into richer territory on their self-titled debut LP, filled with vocal harmonies, synths, electronic experiments, and even a trumpet. Irresistible in their simplicity and charming in their familiarity, Panic Shack are the sonic equivalent of a coming-of-age film set over a single night. It takes the form of a drinking binge that begins with approaching a bar and ends with a passionate speech at sunrise about how much one loves one’s friends. Moving beyond the usual themes of sex and romance, the entire album revolves around the deep connection between the four women.
