Sorry for cheating, even though this is billed as a 7-inch single reissue series! This is a 7-inch reissue of a 1949 SP by saxophonist/singer Joe Lutcher, brother of famed singer Nellie Lutcher, released on Modern Records. The 2011 7-inch release from Jazzman's blues/R&B-focused Jukebox Jam series has already become quite pricey, so this is a welcome reissue.
Side A, "Ojai," is an exhilarating R&B instrumental that evolves from exotic to swing to Latin jazz. Side B, which featured an alternate take of "Ojai" on the Jazzman 7-inch, features Lutcher on vocals, just like on the original SP.
This track, also covered by Snooks Eaglin, is a super-jolly New Orleans-infused track, as the title suggests.
