This 27-track 2-CD collection features the Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet and comprises all but one of the titles from the originally-released versions of the albums “Clifford Brown & Max Roach” (original 10” version), “Brown And Roach Incorporated”, “Study In Brown” and “At Basin Street”. The first three albums feature Harold Land (tenor sax), Richie Powell (piano) and George Morrow (bass) with Brown & Roach, and on “At Basin Street” Sonny Rollins replaces Harold Land. The two stars achieved a close and productive musical rapport, and these recordings, ranging across jazz standards and original compositions, are an excellent testimony to their distinctive talents and make for thoroughly entertaining listening.
