The Abominable Snowman Checks His Watch is Murray Moulding's eighth collection of poetry and carries on the structural
experimentation of his previous books. These are off-beat, often humorous poems that rarely tell a story but spin off from their opening lines through a world of wry insights and cock-eyed images. Certain characters show up with some frequency: old Mrs. Winesap, Chan the scissors grinder, Milo the electrician and Uncle Heber, along with various surgeons, psychiatrists, constables and ship captains. "The Great Artist paints portraits on television screens . . ." begins the poem "Portraits" and from there illuminates the consequences. "We drained the pool/And there was the missing blunderbuss" from the poem "Goldfish." One of many wonderful discoveries in a book of matchless discoveries.
