Trapped in his apartment during a long hot summer, due to a broken leg, photographer L.B Jeffries (James Stewart), has nothing else to do than sit and watch his neighbours in the apartments around his. Getting to know the neighbours by site, he starts to suspect that a murder has occurred in the apartment opposite his, but is he just imagining it or is there really a killer so close at hand? Stewart is as great as ever in the central role, which sees him permanently in a wheel chair, while the ever beautiful Grace Kelly makes her second appearance in a Hitchcock film as Stewart's plucky girlfriend.
