Songs From The Sanctuary is a series of compilations presenting and preserving the sacred music of the African American worship experience. Recorded in the historic Samuel P. Miller Chapel on the campus of Princeton Theological Seminary, this project showcases sundry genres of worship music including anthems, hymns and hymn arrangements, concertized and folk spirituals, as well as classic gospels. These volumes are designed prayerfully to enhance your personal devotional experience, worship services, and special gatherings, or simply to provide solace and strength for your soul. It is my hope that the spirit of worship captured and experienced during these live recordings will also touch your heart as you listen to the songs from the sanctuary. VOLUME I This project represents the meeting and merging of the rich musical traditions and heritage of the African American Church worship experience with the diversity of the sacred music expression of the Presbyterian Church and Princeton Theological Seminary. The album features performances and recordings in two historic sanctuaries: the Samuel P. Miller chapel on the campus of Princeton Theological Seminary and the Union Baptist church, the oldest Black Baptist church in Trenton, New Jersey's capitol. This is the first in a series of sacred works that will showcase sundry genres of sacred music, including hymns, spirituals, classic gospels, and inspirational songs. Featured in this project is the musical mastery of Minister Michael R. Gittens on pipe organ, Hammond organ, and piano, as well as the Cantate Domino Choir from Princeton Theological Seminary, under the direction of Dr. Martin Tel, assisted by Chi Yi Chen. Special guests included members of the mass choir from the historic Union Baptist Church of Trenton, New Jersey and the congregational voices of the Princeton Seminary community.
