Grady (Marcus Graham, Rip Tide), is a former soldier who is in prison for his part in a major money-laundering operation. Whilst inside, he learns of the brutal yet mysterious murder of his brother, Christian. Desperate for answers, Grady makes a daring escape while attending Christian's funeral. He's become a man with one mission in life, to avenge his brother's death - no matter what the cost. Grady's only ally is his ex-lover Kate (Nikki Coghill, Playing Beatty Bow), who reluctantly agrees to help him track down Christian's murderer. To solve the mystery there are going to be two more lives put on the line. But when you've come this far, there's no turning back. This rarely seen Australian production was directed by veteran Australian director and cinematgrapher, Vince Monton (Long Weekend, Road Games) and shot on location in Melbourne.
Review of Point of No Return by Christopher Pattison
‘Umbrella Entertainment’ have been releasing an abundance of Australian films that have previously never seen a physical media release. ‘Point of No Return’ is now out on DVD here in Australia and was a film I was unfamiliar with. ‘Point of No Return’ follows an ex-soldier Grady (played by Marcus Graham) whose life has been turned upside down, and his emotions disturbed by his experiences at war who escapes from olive custody after attending the burial of his murdered brother. With a classic early 1990’s action premise and an impressive Australian cast, I was excited to check-out ‘Point of No Return’. SO how as it?
‘Point of No Return’ was a fun throwback action film. Inspired by American films such as; ‘The Fugitive’, ‘Cobra’ and even ‘Die Hard’, ‘Point of No Return’ use it relative low-budget to its advantage, with a lot of the set-pieces feeling authentic and giving a fun and throwback vibe to the filmmaking. The film also has an enjoyable cast, Marcus Graham asserts himself as an Australian action icon.
‘Point of No Return’ is a cheesy 1990’s action/thriller that holds up remarkably well. This new DVD re-master from Umbrella Entertainment has a certain charm to it, still possessing the film grain that makes the film unique and fun. The cast is great as well with Marcus Graham standing-out. The film's story does have familiar beats, but with the low-budget charm, these predictable plot devices are not an issue. I had a lot of fun with this film and as a first-time viewer did find myself quite surprised. Veteran Australian director Vincent Monton also does a fantastic job with the action set-pieces. I am giving ‘Point of No Return’ a 7/10. Pick up your copy today on DVD from Sanity in-store or online.
