The Black Sorrows Harley And Rose Vinyl

Harley And Rose is the sixth studio album by Australian rock band The Black Sorrows, originally released in September 1990 via CBS Records in Australia and Columbia Records in the US.

The Black Sorrows are an Australian blues and roots rock band formed in 1983 by mainstay vocalist Joe Camilleri (ex-Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons), who also plays saxophone and guitar. Camilleri has used various line-ups in the band to record seventeen studio albums to date.

This 1990 album is a superb record by The Black Sorrows. The album features a collection of original compositions by Joe Camilleri and Nick Smith, with Camilleri taking the lead vocals together with Vika and Linda Bull who add a sense of soul and blues feel to the album. Then addition of another violin player to the band brings another dimension to the songs, of which all of them are strong and flow well together through the album. There are traces of gospel influence on “Hold It Up To The Mirror”, and a blues boogie on “House of Light”, and the slower but moving “Soul on Fire” with its mournful trumpet features.

The album produced four singles “Harley + Rose”, “Angel Street”, “Never Let Me Go” and “Hold It Up To The Mirror”.

The album peaked at #3 on the Australian Albums charts, becoming the band's first top five album, and remained in the Top 50 for 51 weeks.

At the ARIA Music Awards of 1991, the album was nominated for two ARIA Awards; ARIA Award for Album of the Year and ARIA Award for Best Group but lost to Blue Sky Mining by Midnight Oil for both awards.

This album has been reissued on vinyl for the first time since the early 1990s for Record Store Day in 2018.
