Review of Terminator: Genisys by Christopher Pattison
The Terminator franchise has had its ups and downs over the years. After the disappointing box office returns of ‘Terminator: Salvation’ it was only a matter of time before the franchise got a modern reboot. Enter ‘Terminator: Genisys’. ‘Terminator: Genisys’ takes a different turn with the story. Arnold’s T-800 has raised Sarah Connor and now she is prepared for everything Skynet could throw at her, except, well, her son…
I found ‘Terminator: Genisys’ enjoyable and refreshing compared to other Terminator films. With so many blockbuster time travel movies released, it is hard to remain fresh and innovative and ‘Terminator: Genisys’ is able to find a way to do that without feeling over-the-top and ridiculous. Emilia Clarke plays Sarah Connor, following in Lena Headey (Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Linda Hamilton’s (Terminator & Terminator 2: Judgement Day) footsteps, who have both done a great job with the character, but Emilia Clarke gives a modern and different performance than what we have previously seen and she does it very well. Fellow Australia Jai Courtney also joins the cast as Kyle Reese and I thought he was great in the role as well. He was believable as Kyle Reese and again gives a different performance to what we have previously seen of the character in the Terminator franchise thus far. Arnie was also really enjoyable, providing great comedy nuance to his performance whilst also reminding the world that he has still got it. ‘Terminator: Genisys’ is a fun revival of the Terminator universe, with great characters a fun premise and some great special FX. Pick this one up on 4K UHD today and you will not be disappointed!
