New York Times Best-Selling author Neil Gaiman and International recording artist Amanda “Fucking” Palmer release a 3-disc set, titled ‘An Evening With Neil Gaiman & Amanda Palmer’.
In 2011, Neil and Amanda, recently married, decided to tour the West Coast, and perform together for six nights doing what they did best (reading and singing respectively), to meet each other's fans and answer questions from the audience. Requests for the shows to be recorded resulted in their first crowdfunding experiment. They went to Kickstarter to raise the money, made 666% more than they asked for, and so were able, in Spring 2012, to release a 3 CD set, bonus CDs and digital material to their 3873 backers. The material has never been available to the general public.
“The Evening With Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer tour we did in 2011 was whatever happens when Amanda and I get together on a stage for two hours. Amanda's fans had to put up with the messy-haired Englishman reading them stories, and mine got to enjoy the beautiful lady singing them songs of angst, post-modernism and woe. Or possibly vice versa. Also, it was an awful lot of fun. I'm glad that people all over the world can now listen to it.” – Neil Gaiman
"These shows were very different beasts from the loud, crazed rock shows that I'm accustomed to...and also very different from the relatively well-behaved readings to which Neil is accustomed. Neil and I are both very close with our fanbases, and, even though there's quite a bit of crossover, the 2011 tour was a like one big, long reception in which our two fan-familes got to meet each other. We kept the venues cozy and seated, and made the nights feel like an after-hours salon more than a formal show. As Neil and I get closer to our fanbases online through blogging and tweeting, it was nice to spend some actual quality offline facetime with everybody. It provided some serious soul-food all around." – Amanda Palmer
Previously unreleased to the general public, and culled from hours of live recordings, one CD features Gaiman and Palmer collaborations, such as “Makin’ Whoopee” and “I Google You,”. One CD is all Amanda Palmer, and marks the first time original live Amanda Palmer tracks “Dear Old House” “Gaga, Palmer, Madonna: A Polemic” “Judy Blume” and “Do You Swear to Tell the Truth the Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth So Help Your Black Ass” have been made available to general public on CD. Gaiman’s solo CD includes several uncollected poems and stories, and his non-fiction account of a visit to the Oscars in “The View From the Cheap Seats”.
Amanda Palmer is a Boston-based musician, force of nature, deliverer of an astonishing TED talk and occasionally one-half of The Dresden Dolls.
Neil Gaiman wrote Sandman, American Gods, Coraline and the Newbery Award winning The Graveyard Book.
