Ray Charles was a pioneer in forming the genre of Soul music during the 1950s by fusing R&B, Blues, Gospel and Blues styles into his early recordings with Atlantic Records, then later having great crossover success, and taking his music into the mainstream with his 'Modern Sounds' albums of the early Sixties. Frank Sinatra called Charles "the only true genius in show business."
