Releasing her self-titled debut album in 2003, French songstress Emilie Simon came to immediate prominence in her home country, being awarded the prestigious Victoir De La Musique award for the album in the Electronic Category in 2004. Following the win, film producer Luc Jacquet contacted her to provide the music for the documentary The March of the Penguins, which won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, and whose English version was narrated by Morgan Freeman. Emily has since gone on to release critically acclaimed albums La Marche de l'Empereur, Vegetal and The Big Machine, and toured stages across the US, Europe and Australia alongside international acts including Placebo.
Franky Knight is the soundtrack to Delicacy (La Delicatesse), a gorgeous French film featuring Audrey Tatou. Her most personal album to date, on Delicacy, Emilie returns organic state, with warm instrumental combinations incorporating brass, woodwind, piano, bass and muffled drums along with the discreet use of harmonium, xylophone and stealth strings. Some of the tracks correspond to the humour of the movie; like the 50s style charmer I Call it Love, while others were written independently and are light and poignant poems about crazy love (such as jetaimejetaimejetaime) which have been set to music for this cinematic adventure.
