Megafaun

Megafaun members' first band, DeYarmond Edison, featured neighbourhood friend, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, and the group released two gently introspective folk albums before splitting in 2006. Reforming as Megafaun without Vernon, they released cult-favorite Bury the Square. Two further freak-folk records, and tour slots with the Mountain Goats and Akron/Family, followed. Megafaun and Vernon remain close friends and frequent collaborators: in fact, this new album was recorded at Vernon's home studio in Fall Creek, Wisconsin. The members of Megafaun also play with GAYNGS, Minnesota-based singer/songwriter Ryan Olson's large 'collective' recording project. To assign the music on Megafaun a genre would be a tad futile; the record unfolds in many directions, moving beyond the back porches of Americana into wholly new and uncanny sonic territory, where gorgeous, earthy melodies blossom into unsettling time signatures and swirling electronic soundscapes.
