In the words of celebrated American food writer and molecular gastronomy pioneer Harold McGee, the art of cooking - at its most fundamental - "requires the selection, measurement, and combining of ingredients in an ordered procedure in an effort to achieve the desired result." The same ethos can be applied to the art of mixing music. Both disciplines demand a creative flare and a delicious dedication. Both rely on the intrinsic quality of their elements and both require the skills, tools and technique of an artist to transform them into an experience that can sate the senses. Whether it's music or a meal, using the finest, freshest ingredients is essential. After all, how can the sum of the parts inspire the soul if the pieces of the puzzle don't fit together in the first place?

When it comes to mixing, a dinner party is the ultimate social experiment, blending company and conversation, libation and laughter. Twentieth century culinary writer Mary Fisher warned that "sharing food with another human being is an intimate act that should not be indulged in lightly," but a meal shared between friends can be as meaningful as it is memorable.
