Featuring 18 tracks, THE VERY BEST OF MARC COHN includes songs from the singer’s three studio albums, a new song recorded live in 2005, as well as “Fallen Angels,” a song released in 1999 on the soundtrack for Message In A Bottle.

Cohn signed with Atlantic Records in 1990 after spending years playing in bands and honing his skills as a songwriter. Featuring six tracks that originally appeared on his debut, Cohn’s THE VERY BEST OF opens with the artist’s signature song, “Walking In Memphis.” The song’s bittersweet, gospel-influenced melody propelled the album into the US Top 40, and helped the album sell nearly three million copies. THE VERY BEST OF also includes “Silver Thunderbird,” which peaked at #22 on the US Mainstream Rock chart and “True Companion,” which reached #24 on the US Adult Contemporary chart.

For his 1993 follow-up, The Rainy Season, Cohn delivered another strong batch of songs spotlighting his warm melodies and intelligent lyrics. His sophomore album is represented on THE VERY BEST OF by five songs including the title track, “Walk Through The World,” and the fan-favourite, “Paper Walls.”

Five songs from Cohn’s last studio album, 1998’s Burning The Daze, are also featured including a cover of Harry Nilsson’s “Turn On Your Radio,” “Saints Preserve Us,” and “Olana,” a song about the influential landscape painter, Frederic Edwin Church, whose home in New York was named Olana.

The album closes with “One Safe Place,” a new song originally featured on the limited edition EP, Marc Cohn Live 04/05, and as the end credit for the film The Upside of Anger.

The song was recorded four months before Cohn was shot in the head during an attempted carjacking after playing a sold-out concert in Denver, from which he fully recovered.
