The supernatural phenomenon returns. If an album has ever been worth the wait, it’s “Shaman”.
Coming off the back off 25 million global sales from one of the most successful records of all time (that earned Carlos a swag of Grammys), Supernatural, Santana has stuck with the winning formula. “Shaman” is a collaborative affair, featuring Carlos’s trademark Latin flair alongside works with some of the world’s most popular and interesting artists. The first single, “Game Of Love” featuring Michelle Branch, is already shaping up to be one of the biggest radio hits of the year (who ever said nothing could ever be as big as “Smooth”?!).
The album features Dido, Seal, P.O.D., Macy Gray, Placido Domingo as well as writing credits from Rob Thomas and Gregg Alexander (formerly of the New Radicals) and a whole host more. If there’s an album where it’s worth taking a look over the sleeve notes, it’s “Shaman”!
“Shaman” is every bit the record it should be. Follow-ups are hard work but Carlos (along with Clive Davis and L.A. Reid) have made it sound easy.
