Old (2021) – 4K UHD – M. Night Shyamalan is one of the most prolific writer/directors of all-time. His work has influenced pop culture greatly with his films receiving critical acclaim whilst also making over $1 billion collectively. Shyamlan continues this with his new film ‘Old’ now available on 4K UHD. This film is fantastic. Shyamalan does a lot here with the camera, flirting with unique camera techniques that he has not used in his previous work that look amazing in 4K UHD. The make-up in the film is quite impressive as well. Yes other actors are used for portions of the film, but I found the make-up, when used, to be quite well done, providing an added element of realism that wouldn’t be present if CGI was used in its place. The cast are all great to, With Alex Wolf and Thomasin McKenzie stealing the show for me.. This one is definitely worth your time and would make a great stocking stuffer this Christmas.

Cards Against Humanity – There is no doubt that everyone enjoys a bit of a laugh and sometimes the bets laughs can be provided by a fun boardgame. One of the most acclaimed and most popular in this genre is without a doubt ‘Cards Against Humanity’. Providing endless laughs and so much fun for the whole group. This will keep your boyfriend entertained for hours on end. The game however, is not for the faint of heart, so I do recommend taking precautions and do read the game rules and cards before purchasing. This game however, is the perfect stocking stuffer for your boyfriend this Christmas.

The Thing (1982) – 4K UHD – John Carpenter is one of my favourite filmmakers. The way he creates atmosphere, surpasses any other director. Have a look ‘The Fog’, ‘Halloween’ and ‘Christine’, they are all great examples of how to create a tense and atmospheric horror flick. However, I think Carpenter perfects this in his 1982 horror/sci-fi classic ‘The Thing’.  ‘The Thing’ to this day, remains one of the best films of all time. The blend of Carpenters trademark style, of creating a slow-burn sci-fi horror, mixed with ground breaking practical, special effects created one of the most atmospheric, tense and enjoyable horror films ever made. Kurt Russell shines here as our lead Macready. We essentially see the film through this character, as he deals with this parasitic alien creature. The dread is amplified by Ennio Morricone’s iconic score. The music is fantastic in the film, creating dark and gloomy atmosphere whilst never taking anything away from the rest of the film. It is perfectly balanced. The use of practical effects is iconic. The film relies heavily on these effects to work and they do not disappoint. Creating grotesque and realistic depictions of body horror and gore. These effects still to this day, remain to be some of the best ever put to film. This is a must-have for any movie fan and a great gift for your boyfriend this Christmas.

Lime Cordiale – 14 Steps to A Better You Vinyl or CD – There have been plenty of great albums over the last few years, but one of the best is Australian band ‘Lime Cordiale’s’ ’14 Steps To A Better You’. The album is filled with amazing tracks, that I am sure your boyfriend loves and if he hasn’t heard them before, he will love. The album included tracks featured in Triple J’s Hottest 100: ‘Inappropriate Behaviour’, ‘Money’, ‘Screw Loose’, ‘Robbery’ and ‘On Our Own’. This album is filled with great tracks that will keep your boyfriend entertained for weeks. The perfect gift for him this Christmas.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (2010) – 4K UHD –When you think of modern filmmakers, surely the name Edgar Wright comes to mind. The man has been responsible for some of the quirkiest and most energetic films of the past 20 years. With the cornetto trilogy (Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End) along with his 2017 heist adventure ‘Baby Driver’, all ranking among my favourite films of this era. A forgotten gem however from the director is his graphic novel adaptation of ‘Scott Pilgrim vs The World’. This film is packed full of energy, with an ultra-stylistic approach that keeps audiences invested throughout, because of its uniqueness and randomness. Michael Cera is the perfect lead for this film. His awkward demeaner and the way he embraces the weird throughout the film blends perfectly with the films style and tone. Edgar Wright balances heart with comedy seamlessly, a trend he has kept consistent through each of his films. I love how the film plays, it is incredibly quick but in a good way. The film moves from scene to scene with ease, remaining faithful to the beloved source material in which its based on and having a great time with the insanity of the heightened reality of the ‘Toronto’ where the films based. The supporting cast of characters are great as well. Chris Evans is my favourite evil ex. He is hilarious and steals nearly every scene he is in. This film looks absolutely incredible in 4K UHD and would make the perfect gift this Christmas.

Fifa 22 (All gaming consoles) – Video games may be the way of the future, but there is one game that has kept its simple formular now for 22 iterations and that is the worldwide bestseller, ‘Fifa’ franchise. The chances are that you boyfriend, whether he is a consistent player of the game or not, I am sure he plays Fifa. The most recent iteration of the game ‘Fifa 22’ provides gamers with the new teams, outfits and rankings of all their favourite clubs and players. The game feels more polished than the 2020 and 2021 versions of the game, with more of an emphasis on the playing styles of specific clubs, with close attention to detail on players and their skill moves. This is a great game and would make a perfect gift for your Boyfriend this Christmas.

Inglourious Basterds (2009) – 4K UHD – ‘Inglourious Basterds’ is an absolute treat. Filled with incredible performances from the likes of Brad Pitt as Lt Aldo Raine and of course Christoph Waltz in his first oscar winning performance as Col Hans Landa. Pitt is charming in the role, as he always is, delivering a truly memorable performance whilst Waltz is terrifying in his role, he is unhinged and a functioning madman. I love them both in this film, but for very different reasons. Tarantino’s direction itself, is incredibly well handled. He creates moments of suspense like no other scene he has done before. The bar scene being the most memorable. The film is also darkly witty, possessing that charming Tarantino dialogue. Its dark humour elevate many of the sequences to become one of my all-time favourite War-era flicks, even if the story is fictional. The film looks absolutely stunning in 4K UHD as well and would make a perfect gift for your Boyfriend this Christmas.

Monopoly Jurassic Park Edition – Another board game that is a must-have for men across the globe is, of course, Monopoly. This version of the Parker Brothers classic Board Game is fantastic. With references to everyone’s favorite spy being included. The game provides you with the classic Monopoly gameplay, but with the added value of Jurassic Park. This game is sure to start a few fights in the family. The games artwork is also quite stunning and could be used as a display piece in your boyfriend’s mancave. This is yet another great gift for your Boyfriend for Christmas in 2021.

Game of Thrones (Complete Series) – DVD/Blu-Ray/4K UHD – One of the most successful shows of all time and a guaranteed watch from your boyfriend is HBO’s epic ‘Game of Thrones’. , based on the novels by acclaimed author George R.R Martin, the show is universally adored by millions of fans from around the globe and now that, the show has finished, you can re-live it, in all its glory on physical media with DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K UHD releases of the show in its entirety now available. The box artwork is a great display piece as well, and would make a great addition to a man cave. All 8 seasons are available in this set, which also contains amazing special features, including: Interviews with the cast and crew, making-of shorts, and gag reels. This is a great set and an amazing gift for your boyfriend, but be warned, it will most likely be playing on the tv for a couple of months after, because it is near impossible to turn off!
