Sisu: Road to Redemption Movie Review

Sisu: Road to Redemption doubles down on everything that made Sisu such a cult action hit back in 2022. It’s brutal simplicity, striking visuals, and a hero who refuses to die no matter what stands in his way made for a surprising sleeper hit in the age of streaming. Once again led by the stoic and unstoppable Aatami Korpi (played by Jorma Tommila), the sequel delivers a lean, adrenaline-fueled ride that feels bigger in scale and more confident in its storytelling.

Director Jalmari Helander clearly understands the appeal of the character and the world he created. Rather than overcomplicating things, the film embraces its pulp roots and ramps up the spectacle. The action sequences are inventive, visceral, and often darkly funny. Fans of the first film will appreciate how the sequel expands the mythology while keeping the gritty, Western-inspired tone intact.

Visually, the film remains stunning. The stark landscapes and harsh wartime environments create a cinematic canvas that makes every explosion, chase, and fight feel epic. Helander’s direction balances tension with moments of mythic heroism, turning Korpi into something larger than life, with Korpi becoming more akin to a folk legend carved out of steel and grit.

What makes Sisu 2 especially satisfying is its commitment to pure, uncompromising entertainment. Its not reinventing the wheel, but it perfects a very specific kind of storytelling we haven’t really seen since the likes of Commando or the early Die Hard films. For audiences who loved the first film’s fearless energy, Sisu 2 is exactly the sequel they were hoping for.
