Music That Will Get You Dancing - The Lockdown Edition

Every morning it feels like we are receiving new lockdown announcements for a different state with extensions, snap lockdowns and hundred of cases being added, and it can be quite heavy. Every time I read “breaking news” or see a government live stream pop up on Facebook, I start to shudder. So while half of the country is in lockdown, I think it’s important that we try to smile, laugh, and dance while our worlds are temporarily turned upside down. So we’ve compiled a list of 5 songs that will get you dancing in lockdown. 

5. Mask, Gloves, Soap, Scrubs - Todrick Hall

Written as a parody track to his hit single ‘Nails, Hair, Lips, Heels’, this song plays as a direct commentary to the COVID-19 pandemic and is also a bit of an educational track of what you need to be doing. It’s such a playful track that will immediately get stuck in your head. And the accompanying music video is a who’s who of LGBTQI+ celebs and allies. 

4. Love Lockdown - Kanye West

This is not what Kanye West specifically intended for this track, but ‘Love Lockdown’ has kinda become an anthem for anyone suffering heartbreak in lockdown. With its 808 beat giving it a pulsating energy, this is a great song to vibe to around the house. 

3. Wings - Delta Goodrem 

Obviously we had to include a song from the queen of the Delta Variant herself. With the Delta strain on its Australian tour at the moment, we wish it would take the advice of Delta Goodrem and find its wings and fly away. 

2. Break Free - Ariana Grande

We just really want to break free. And while we are aware of why we need to be in lockdown, we can dream of breaking free and being in a COVID-19 free world again. So this a song of escapism for anyone that wants to dream with us. 

1. Dancing On My Own - Robyn

Written as a cathartic break-up song, this track has taken on a new life in a COVID-19 world because at the moment all we can do is dance on our own. This is the song you can turn on and dance around your bedroom or house and simultaneously cry while screaming out the euphoric feeling chorus. It’s such a cathartic song, and a must listen for this lockdown while you dream of being in a club and feeling body heat all around you. 

Bonus Mention - BTS - Outro (Wings)

While the "Music that will get you dancing" series is generally a 5 part list - I wanted to include a smash BTS track that has a get edgy tune that will certainly have you bopping. It's about flying to the future and dreams that you want. Don't let lockdown get you down and depressed - dance away and continue chasing your dreams.
