There have’t been may positives arise from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but for 5SOS fans this time where the band haven’t been able to tour has allowed some of their favourites to experiment with their own artistries. Following drummer Ashton Irwin’s solo debut album ‘Superbloom’ last year, lead vocalist Luke Hemmings has now announced the release of his own debut solo album.
‘When Facing the Things We Turn Away from’ will be released on August 13, and to launch this project he’s dropped the poignantly titled lead single ‘Starting Line’. Reflecting on the fast paced lifestyle he’s lived ever since he was a teenager, he addresses the blurred memories that he aches to remember.
Sonically found somewhere in-between Gang Of Youths and The 1975, the song is really mature and experimental at its core compared to the previous hooky-pop punch you’ve come to know and love from 5SOS. Allowing him to showcase his storytelling and tap more into his vulnerability, this track tenderly begins on the piano before building with electrifying guitars, big drums and layered vocals that give this epic swelling effect.
This is a very exciting and mature lead single for Luke Hemmings which only signals the beginning as he prepares to candidly open his heart to listeners.
