Overwhelming presence and persuasive power, singer-songwriter Jeong Cha-sik's solo debut [Disappointed Man]

Jung Cha-sik was first known as the vocalist of 'Rainy Sun', a band that boasted a unique personality in the early days of the indie scene. Even in the indie music world where all kinds of eccentric musicians appear and disappear, 'Rainy Sun' attracted attention by unveiling music, appearance, and performance that had never been heard in Korea before. It's heavy, but it's not the metal we know, it's dark, decadent, and perverted music, so it's called 'Gwigok Metal' as a neologism. If I were to attach a western genre name, it would be closer to 'alternative metal'. 'Rainy Sun' was active in the limelight and released four full-length albums for 10 years of ups and downs.

[Disappointed Man] was released in 2011 as a solo debut album in which musician Jeong Cha-sik unfolded his own music as an adult after experiencing various things in the world. It is an album that expresses the suppressed desire for self-expression, self-consciousness as a man and artist entering middle age, and all the joys and sorrows experienced in life. You cannot attach a specific genre or style to this music. Everything melts into it, but it is not similar to anything. It is correct to call this music just stop table music.

As the album title suggests, the atmosphere of [Disappointed Man] is spleen, sad, and futile. I am overwhelmed by the various emotions the artist feels. It feels like watching a play. The play is appropriately a play of the absurd. There are comical and cute corners in between, so it's like a black comedy, and it's popular music, but the emphasis is on art rather than entertainment. And it's one-man band music. Jeong Cha-sik writes lyrics, composes, sings, and plays all instruments in this album. I did the mixing and mastering by myself.
Jeong Cha-sik created an alum of 15 songs, 1 hour and 8 minutes, filled with artistically excellent and high-quality songs. Critics reacted immediately, naming [The Man in the Darkness] as one of the finest albums of 2011, and nominated for several music awards. This album is now released as an LP. It's encouraging. It's a wonder that it hasn't been released yet. Listening to it again for planning and work is more inspiring than before. I don't think it's music that gets better as you get older. Even as the years go by, it seems that it will sound more new, rather than losing its freshness. [Disappointed Man] has risen to the ranks of classics. Jeong Won-seok (Music Critic)
