With music being a core element in 'Beyond the Lights,' the soundtrack rebuilds the film's storyline perfectly by combining classic evergreens like Nina Simone's 'Blackbird' with current stars like Nicki Minaj and Birdy and newcomers like Amel Larrieux and Yuna.

'Beyond the Lights' also benefits from a number of songs produced by The Dream, which were written and recorded specifically for the film, including "Masterpiece," "C-Mon Boy," "Private Property" and "Blackbird." Each of those tracks feature main actress Mbatha-Raw on vocals and rapper Machine Gun Kelly, who plays Kid Culprit.

The film also includes the original track "Grateful," written by Diane Warren and performed by Rita Ora - this track plays over the end credits.

'Beyond the Lights' is the fictional story of Noni Jean, the music world's latest superstar. But not all is what it seems, and the pressures cause Noni to nearly fall apart - until she meets Kaz Nicol, a promising young cop and aspiring politician who's been assigned to her detail.

Drawn to each other, Noni and Kaz fall fast and hard, despite the protests of those around them who urge them to put their career ambitions ahead of their romance. But it is ultimately Kaz's love that gives Noni the courage to find her own voice and break free to become the artist she was meant to be.
