Hip-Hop legends The Roots release their highly aniticapted 16th album, ‘…and then you shoot your cousin’. The release follows from their 2013 collaboration album with Elvis Costello ‘Wise Up Ghost’ which attracted a massive 1.7M Spotify streams alone.
Lead single from the forthcoming album ‘When The People Cheer ft.Modesty Lycan’ was released via SoundCloud and has already received over 500K plays in only 3 weeks! Starting off with a piano hook reminiscent of 90’s R&B artists such as K-Ci&JoJo, The Roots inject their flavor into the track with Questlove’s signature drums and a rap from longtime collaborator Greg Porn. New talent Modesty Lycan’s scratchy vocals give a unique texture to the tune, tying it all together into a smooth mix. The track has also received 3.5K love on Hypemachine and Questlove is doing a six-part essay with vulture magazine on the meaning behind ‘When The People Cheer.’
Legends is an understatement for this band; over the years The Roots have worked with artists such as Prince, John Legend, MosDef, Common, Erykah Badu, Nelly Furtado and the list goes on. Now the house band for Jimmy Fallon, The Roots continue to dominate the Hip-Hop scene with Rolling Stone adding them to their list of The New Immortals and praising them as the hands-down greatest Hip-Hop band of all time.
