Black Hawk Down is set to become one of the biggest movies of 2002 - directed by Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Hannibal, Alien) with a original score soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer, Black Hawk Down is based on the true story of the Battle of Mogadishu, set in 1993 during the Somalian Civil War. An elite force of US troops was dropped into Mogadishu to abduct two Somalian lieutenants. The 'simple' extraction went sour when two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were shot down, stranding troops and leading to a 15-hour firefight that left hundreds dead. The film is based upon the nonfiction book, Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War, by Mark Bowden, which tells the true story of the Battle of Mogadishu, set on October 3rd, 1993, during the Somalian Civil War The cast includes Australia's own ERIC BANA (Chopper), Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge, Trainspotting), Josh Hartnett (Pearl Harbour, Virgin Suicides), Jason Isaacs (Armageddon), Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan) and Ewen Bremner (Snatch, Trainspotting) Hans Zimmer's dramatic score combines elements of African and American music with vocals by the acclaimed Senegalese artist Baaba Maal. The soundtrack also includes "Barra Barra" by Rachid Taha, the Algerian world beat artist, and "Minstrel Boy" by Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros. 'Minstrel Boy' is a brand new recording - exclusively available on this album - that is played over the film's end credits. The original version of this track appears on Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros' 2001 album Global a Go-Go.
