Ticket To Paradise Movie Review

The Romcom genre has experienced a revival in the past year, with films such as ‘Marry Me’, ‘The Lost City’ and ‘Bros’ all receiving both critical and commercial success. Following this trend, we saw the team up of two rom coms idols, Julia Roberts and George Clooney in ‘Ticket To Paradise’, a Romantic comedy set on the beautiful beaches of Bali. The film sees separated parents, David and Georgia Cotton, played by Roberts and Clooney who travel to Bali to foil their daughter’s wedding. The film has a classic rom com set-up, and with a beautiful backdrop like Bali, it has all the hallmarks of a classic. So how was ‘Ticket to Paradise’?

‘Ticket To Paradise’ was a lot of fun from start to finish. The film has a great sense of family at its core, which is the highlight of the film for me. Even though David and Georgia bicker through most of the film, the two’s interactions with one another feel genuine and you can really see that there are still some feelings there. Yes, the film follows a very familiar premise, but because of the two leads, I really didn’t care, I was having way too much fun watching Roberts and Clooney on screen together. The two have fantastic chemistry, re-uniting on the big screen for the first time since 'Ocean's Twelve' back in 2004. They are the standouts of the film and without them, I don’t think it would work as well as it does.

The setting is also a great selling point of the film. It's gorgeous to look at, and with the holiday season upon us, makes you want to book a holiday to Bali ASAP. Writer and Director Ol Parker has done a great job at showcasing just how beautiful the scenery is in Bali. The film is gorgeous to look at utilising real locations and showcasing all the fun activities you can do whilst on the Island. It's such a great selling point of the film. The story also has a lot of heart, outside of the family dynamic, the themes of love, life is what you make of it and ageing are all poignant and well realised. I left the film contemplating my own relationships with family and friends, gaining a new appreciation for them. It was something I did not expect from this film.

‘Ticket To Paradise’ is cliché and full of all the genre tropes you would expect, but because of the chemistry between the film's two leads, I just didn’t care. It’s great to see Julia Roberts and George Clooney on the screen again and I would love to see more of them. This is a must watch, especially around the holiday time. ‘Ticket To Paradise’ is available now on DVD and Blu-Ray. Be sure to head to your local Sanity or online to secure your copy today, you won’t want to miss this one.
