Thor Love & Thunder: 3 Moments You Won't Forget!

Thor Love & Thunder - 3 Moments You Won't Forget!

Marvel has been on a roll of late, with film-after-film making a lot of money and making a lot of fans all over the world, very, very happy. ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ continued this trend, seeing Thor team up again with the Korg and Valkyrie as they tackle a new threat, ‘Gorr: The God Butcher’. As a fourth entry in the Thor solo film outings, people were worried that the God of thunder would become a little tired, but with director Taika Waititi returning from Thor: Ragnarok to direct, the film was in safe hands. With ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ hitting physical media Wednesday 14th of September, I will be breaking down the 3 moments you won’t forget from the film. These are the best sequences from the film and showcase why Thor is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) heavyweights. So, let's go!

The negative zone fights with Gorr the God Butcher – One of the best elements of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is the amazing visuals that the film puts on display. The best example of this is when Thor, Lady Thor aka Jane Foster and Valkyrie do battle with Gorr the God Butcher in the Negative Zone. The sequence is made up mostly of black and white colours, with the Red of Thor’s cape vaguely seen. As Gorr uses the shadows to his advantage, these awesome designs are made-up mostly by shadow puppets and stop-motion, animation styled creature designs. It looks fantastic, creating a tense battle sequence, with a subtle homage to Hammer horror thrown in there as well. Director Taika Waititi does a great job bringing this sequence to life. It is without a doubt, a standout in the film.

New Asgard under attack – Another action set-piece that is also visually arresting and a lot of fun, in the way, only Marvel action sequences can be. The scene sees Gorr arrive in New-Asgard and attack the Asgardians. This is the first time we get to see Thor’s reaction to Jane Foster becoming Lady Thor and the two of them in action together. Its fun, exciting and well-directed. The stakes are high, as Gorr kidnaps the Asgardian children. The scene showcases the perfect balance of the more serious elements, along with the light-hearted jokes that Marvel does so well.

Thor visits Olympus – In one of the more fun sequences in ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’, Thor, Valkyrie, Lady Thor, Korg and a couple of screaming goats, visit Olympus, home of the Gods to enlist the help of Zeus as Gorr’s murder of God like figures across planets is threatening their very existence. The scene sees our group of heroes’ infiltrate Olympus, as Thor fanboys over the Gods, as if they were his idols growing up. Russell Crowe steals his scenes as the overzealous Zeus, King of the Gods. He is quirky and laugh-out-loud hilarious in the film.   The scene is great and showcases the great chemistry between our group of heroes, allowing Chris Hemsworth to flex his comedic muscle. It’s a lot of fun and visually interesting seeing Olympus be brought to life in the MCU.

Overall, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ was a lot of fun. Giving audiences the Marvel action and humour blend that the studio has become synonymous with. The cast are all wonderful, with Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman proving once again that they have amazing chemistry with one another. Christian Bale’s villainous turn as Gorr the God Butcher is equal parts menacing and endearing, with Bale stealing almost every scene he is in. This is a worthy entry in the MCU and well-worth your time. ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ hits shelves September 14, so head on over to your local Sanity or online pre-order your copy on DVD, Blu-Ray or 4K UHD today.
