AFL - Grand Finals Of The Eighties DVD

Step back in time to experience again the VFL Grand Finals of the 1980s. The decade began in emphatic style as Richmond defeat Collingwood by a record margin of 81-points. The following year Carlton, down by 21-points late in the third quarter, would stun Collingwood in the final quarter to snatch victory in a tightly contested final. The Blues would then go back-to-back the following year against the Tigers, although it is Richmond's Cyril Rioli who would claim the Norm Smith Medal despite being on the losing team, the first time that this had occurred in a VFL Grand Final. 1983 would mark the beginning of Hawthorns spell of dominance as the Hawks, with a team widely regarded to be one of the finest in Australian football history, appeared in the first of seven consecutive grand finals, winning flags in 1983, 1986, 1988 and 1989. In the midst of Hawthorns dominant period, Essendon would contest three consecutive grand finals, winning in 1984 and 1985 and establishing a rivalry between the clubs that exists to this day. The decade finished on a high as Hawthorn defeated Geelong in a physical match widely considered to be one of the greatest of all time; Geelong's Gary Ablett would kick nine goals to equal the Grand Final record.
