Alliage Quintett Fantasia CD

The Alliage Quintet has a gift for surprising its audiences by toying with the illusion of a symphony orchestra. The ensemble is like a storyteller regaling its audience with its own version of a traditional narrative.

For “Fantasia”, the players joined forces with Sabine Meyer to explore the imaginative world of works by Borodin, Stravinsky, Dukas, Bernstein and Shostakovich – works that are all based on famous fairytales, narratives and stories, e.g. Goethe’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Voltaire’s much-travelled Candide or the Russian folklore Firebird.

ABOUT THE ALLIAGE QUINTETT
Unique in its line-up, the Alliage Quintett, two-time winner of the "Echo Klassik" award, creates the illusion of listening to a big orchestra. The ensemble is led on the soprano sax by its founder Daniel Gauthier, and he has several of today's best classical saxophone soloists at his side: Magdalena Lapaj (Poland) plays the alto, Asya Fateyeva (Ukraine) the tenor sax, and Sebastian Pottmeier (Germany) the baritone. Korean pianist Jang Eun Bae completes the ensemble.

The Alliage Quintett has made guest appearances in many of Europe's major concert halls, in Asia and North America, and also at well-known festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival and the Lucerne Festival. In addition to many radio and TV appearances, e.g. on "ARTE Lounge", the Quintet has released a total of five CD's with works by Mendelssohn, Schumann, Mozart, Rossini and Puccini specially arranged for them. Their label début with SONY CLASSICAL, featuring a recomposition of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and a number of Bach arrangements, appeared under the title "Masquerade" in 2008. For "Voyage Russe“ (2011) the Alliage musicians set out on a fabulous trip through Russia, playing Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and "Scheherazade" by Rimsky-Korsakov. “Dancing Paris” (2014) with Gypsy violinist József Lendvay was awarded with an „ECHO Klassik“. The recording shows the music fascination of France in the beginning of the 20th century with compositions by Milhaud, Satie and Gershwin.

ABOUT SABINE MEYER
Sabine Meyer is one of the world’s most renowned instrumental soloists. It is partly due to her that the clarinet, a solo instrument previously underestimated, recaptured the attention of the concert platform.

She had an engagement as solo clarinetist at the Berlin Philharmonic which she abandoned, as she was more and more in demand as a soloist. For almost a quarter of a century, numerous concerts and broadcast engagements led her to all musical centres of Europe as well as to Brazil, Israel, Canada, Africa and Australia, and, for twenty years, equally regularly to Japan and the USA.

Sabine Meyer has been a much-celebrated soloist with more than three hundred orchestras internationally. She has given guest performances with all the top-level orchestras in Germany and has been engaged by the world’s leading orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, the Orchestra of Suisse Romande, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Orchestras of Vienna, Basel, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest as well as numerous additional ensembles.

Sabine Meyer received eight “Echo Classic Awards”, is laureate of the “Niedersachsen Prize”, the “Brahms Prize”, she is member of the “Academy of Arts Hamburg”. In 2010 she received the decoration „Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres“ from the French government. She has been appointed to a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik in Lübeck in 1993.
