Mars and his songwriting/production team The Smeezingtons (Mars, Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine) partnered with heavyweight producers including Jeff Bhasker, Mark Ronson and Diplo to create the 10-track album. The lead single, "Locked Out of Heaven," is a combination of rich thumping bass, 80's style synths, with an added touch of reverb.

Other hit singles from the album include 'When I Was Your Man', 'Treasure' and current smash single 'Gorilla'.
