In 1961 Tamla had issued a compilation album Tamla Special #1, an album that gathered together all of the a and B sides of singles released that same year. Whilst several of the tracks have continued to appear on countless compilations ever since, the rarity of the other tracks prompted Motown to do much the same in 1962, gathering together both sides of singles by Mary Wells and Eddie Holland. Here the rarity are the two tracks by the Valadiers, whose Greetings (This Is Uncle Sam) would be later revived and taken into the charts by the Monitors.
