Prepare for glory!
This epic graphic novel by Frank Miller (Sin City) assaults the screen with the blood, thunder and aew of its ferocious visual style faithfully recreated in an intense blend of live-action and CGI animation. Retelling the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, it depicts the titanic clash in which King Leonidas (Gerald Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive Persian army. Experience history at swordpoint. And moviemaking with a cutting edge.
Review of 300 by Christopher Pattison
Zack Synder’s has produced some of popular cultures most iconic films, with his filmography featuring the likes of: ‘Dawn of The Dead’, ‘300’, ‘Watchmen’, ‘Sucker Punch’, ‘Man of Steel’, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Justice League’ just to name a few. His visual filmmaking style has made him one of Hollywood’s most prolific filmmakers. In 2006 he made ‘300’. ‘300’ revolutionised a new style of filmmaking, with the graphic novel source material feeling like it had just leapt straight from the pages onto the big screen. The film was filled with great visuals, entertaining performances and fun and exciting action. ‘300’ has always held a special place in my heart. The film revolutionised the graphic novel adaptation, doing it better than many films that had come before it, with Synder’s visionary direction mixed with breath-taking action.
The film is populated with interesting characters in a violent and stylised world. Gerard Butler leads the cast as King Leonidis. A Violent leader, that will do anything to keep his people safe. The film tells the tale of the 300 Spartans that went up against the Persian army, with nothing but their strength, loyalty and about 2 tonnes of baby oil. The action sequences as mentioned are all very well executed, oozing with style and grit. There are many sequences that are taken straight out of the graphic novel by Frank Millar, with the pages coming to life. The performances are all really strong as well, with Michael Fassbender showing up in a very early performance as one of the Spartans.
By now, the chances are that you have already seen ‘300’, but this recent 4K UHD release is simply breathtaking, with the action playing better than it ever has and the film sounding better than ever before. As a film collector, this is a must have. I am giving ‘300’ an 8/10. Pick-up your copy of 4K UHD today at your local Sanity or online, you won’t regret it!
