Low Pressure Sound System explores the creation of live soundtracks to breathtaking oceanic footage. Depending on the performance they will create ambience and spaciousness or driving, pulsing rhythms with rolling bass lines and evocative washes of sound and colour. With their heavy roots, soul, reggae, psychedelic rock, folk and experimental electronic influences, their sound shines through as an original and intriguing mash up of all these elements. Lead by Sol Carroll & OJ Newcomb which features world renowned free surfer Dave Rastovich is a collective of Surfing Musicians who record soundtracks & perform live to with the soul purpose of performing music in its pure form. Totally improvised, nothing writen down, nothing rehearsed.
The band communicate through subtle signals and expressions and just feel their way through extended improvisations within their music. Their songs are composed to allow for free flowing or can be brought back to concise arrangements depending on the gig. Low Pressure Sound System also recently toured the East Coast of Australia with an audio visual show for the launch of Dave Rastovich's movie, 'Life Like Liquid'. Oj & Sol from BoF & Afro Dizzi Act produced the soundtrack to the movie which features members from well known Australian bands such as King Tide, Ash Grunwald, Afro Dizzi Act, Oka and The Winnie Coopers. On the tour they experimented with playing live soundtracks to footage by legendary surf cinematographers George Greenough, Albe Falzon, Jack McCoy and Dick Hoole. The experiments have opened up a whole new spectrum of possibilities for audiovisual interaction in their shows. Check out the short for the film on the Life Like Liquid page of this site.
