They met. They fell in love. They wrote songs. They fought. They made up. They broke up. They wrote songs.

It’s been a complicated personal journey, but their stunning harmonies and undeniable musical connection has led the acclaimed Australian duo behind Falls—Simon Rudston-Brown and Melinda Kirwin—to the delivery of their global debut Omaha this spring.

After two years of honing their songs and live performance during a residency at inner city Sydney pub the Hotel Hollywood, Falls caught the ear of triple j, hitting the airwaves with their debut single ‘Home’. This led to touring with The Lumineers, Passenger, Of Monsters & Men, Vance Joy and Matt Corby.

In turn, Universal Music Group’s iconic Verve Records fell in love with the band’s subtle, yet raw honesty, whisking them over to their new base in the U.S. They spent the 12 months that followed traversing the length and breadth of the United States playing shows, including Sundance Film Festival, Bumbershoot, Loufest, the Americana Music Festival, Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo, all the while writing the songs that would become their debut album, Omaha.

“The songs on the album are really inspired by the whirlwind of the past couple years, and the sense of longing that’s come with uprooting ourselves like that,” says Kirwin. “Everything happened so quickly and it’s all been so exciting, but there are those moments when you realize what you’ve left behind and all the things that were left unsaid.”

Falls escaped to the album’s namesake city to record Omaha, working closely with Mike Mogis (Jenny Lewis, First Aid Kit, Bright Eyes, M. Ward). With Kirwin and Rudston-Brown sharing songwriting duties and trading lead vocals, the album features string arrangements from Tony Buchen¬—the producer behind the band’s first EP, Hollywood, which debuted at No. 2 on the iTunes Australian singer/songwriter chart.
