Bursting out of the garages and backyards of Brisbane with scrapped knees and larger-than-life sound, The Grates and their DIY ethos has always mischievously disturbed the quiet. Their debut album 'Gravity Won't Get You High' (2006) was a renegade hit in a scene dominated by over night pop-stars and steadfast rockers. The two LP's that followed, 'Teeth Lost, Hearts Won' (2008) and 'Secret Rituals' (2011) followed suit with top 10 ARIA Chart debuts, J Award and AMP Award nominations.

Now in 2014, the band have embraced the legacy of their hometown's historic punk and grunge scenes – of course with a trademark Grates twist and limitless drive. Owners of an inventive café and bar, Southside Tea Room, that doubles as a creative hub for bands and artists, the now-married Patience Hodgson and John Patterson are proud to present a new imprint, their label Death Valley. The new home to the forthcoming album 'Dream Team', was recorded in over two weeks, released the same month, and stands a testament to their original and courageous methods.
