DOUGLAS A-26 INVADER - Designed A for attack, the A-26 was so adept at its hybrid combat role that it saw front line service in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
NORTH AMERICAN F-100 SUPER SABRE - Though somewhat difficult to handle, the Super Sabre afforded so much lifting power that it could carry the same payload as a WWII bomber, a load that it could deliver with incredible speed and precision.
VOUGHT A-7 CORSAIR II - So durable that NATO forces are still flying them today, the A7 was the Navys answer to the aging A4 Skyhawk in Vietnam. It was affectionately known as SBUF, short, fat ugly bastard.
BOEING B-52 STRATOFORTTRESS - Designed to drop nuclear bombs on targets anywhere in the world, the B-52 was the Strategic Air Command's key weapon for over a decade.
BELL P-39 AIRACOBRA - One of the principal American fighter aircraft in service at the start of World War II, the Bell P-39 Airacobra was the first fighter in history with a tricycle undercarriage and the first to have the engine installed in the center fuselage, behind the pilot.
LOCKHEED SR-71 BLACKBIRD - Breaking records in speed and sustained altitude, the SR-71 spy plane was one of the Air Forces best kept secrets of the 1960s. Its technology and achievements astounded even the experts of the day.
MCDONNELL-DOUGLAS F-4 PHANTOM II - Phantom production ran from 1958 to 1981, with a total of 5,195 built, making it the most numerous American supersonic military aircraft. Beginning in 1959, it set 15 world records, including an absolute speed record, and an absolute altitude record.
BOEING CH-47 CHINOOK With a top speed of 315 km/h, the CH-47 Chinook was faster than contemporary utility and attack helicopters of the 1960s. It is one of the few aircraft of that era that is still in production and front line service with over 1,179 built to date.
BELL UH-1 HUEY - The UH-1 was the first turbine-powered helicopter to enter production for the US military, and more than 16,000 have been produced worldwide. The first combat operation of the UH-1 was during the Vietnam War, where approximately 7,000 UH-1 aircraft saw service.
BOEING B-17 FLYING FORTRESS - Seizing the new found role of long range bombing like no other plane, the exploits and image of the B-17 are a cornerstone of WWII history.
