Following its February release earlier this year, the critically-acclaimed feature-length Lamb of God documentary “As the Palaces Burn” is being released on DVD.
Film began production with intent to follow the band as they toured the world to demonstrate how their music brought together fans from all walks of life when—in the midst of filming—lead singer Randy Blythe was wrongfully arrested on manslaughter charges after a particularly dramatic concert in the Czech Republic. The film then plunges the band into a Kafkaesque nightmare, turning what would have originally been a placid music documentary into a heart-wrenching courtroom drama that captivated fans and non-fans alike.
As the film only saw a limited theatrical release in just 400 theatres throughout the United States and the United Kingdom, the DVD release will enable both music fans and movie connoisseurs to experience the crazy journey that derailed an innocent musician’s life to the point that the band were inspired to launch The Innocence Project, an organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully-convicted individuals to prevent future injustice. “As the Palaces Burn” received near-universal rave reviews, with audiences appreciating that “you don’t necessarily have to be a fan of this band to enjoy it.” The Examiner “found [the film] at times funny, sad, thought-provoking and heartbreaking [and] felt all of these emotions in just 90 minutes”, while local fans from the band’s Belfast hometown proclaimed the documentary to be much more than your average metal documentary: “this is a film about people, people’s reaction to music and what happens to people when faced with personal tragedy and real life challenges.”
