In this delectable four part series, celebrated chef and self-sufficiency guru Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall takes fruit out of the bowl and onto our plates. Fruit can truly transform a meaty meal, spice up a fishy dish, revitalize traditional puddings, not to mention conjure up luscious liqueurs. Filmed across spring, summer and early autumn, this series follows the seasons and focuses on the fruits that fall within them as sows the seeds of change and revolutionises the way we use fruit. It leads him into the worlds of history, horticulture, hunting and foraging to reveal the extraordinary cultural heritage that exists in Great British fruit. Meeting fascinating and engaging characters, we see Hugh go shooting for squirrels, finish off an orchard pig, scour the countryside for nuts, berries and sloes, join Cornish crabmen at sea, learn how the Victorians grew pineapples at the Gardens of Heligan and bake up a storm at a mad hatters' tea party. Each programme has a loose focus on how fruit can compliment a particular dish, starting with meat through to fish, veg and finally puddings.
