Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni called upon jazz-pianist Herbie Hancock to
compose and perform the score for his first English-language film, Blow-Up. Hancock
is not only one of the greatest active jazz musicians, but one of the most influential
artists of the 20th century. His music embraces elements of funk and soul while
adopting the freer stylistic elements of jazz. His compositions are the perfect
accompaniment to Antonioni’s tale of a photographer’s accidental and incidental
involvement with a murder, set in swinging 60s London.
This edition of the soundtrack features Hancock’s score, songs from The Yardbirds
and Lovin’ Spoonful, and outtakes.
