Murder. Corruption. Revenge. After four years of bloody Civil War and a dozen years of “reconstruction”, the American south remains a land of violent inequality. When former slaves go on strike against Judge Duke’s plantation, all hell breaks loose. The Judge’s son Billy, brutalises the former slaves but Judge has the law in his pocket. Reese Paxton, a white landowner, takes the side of the slaves, starting a succession of events that have him arrested and sentenced to work on a chain gang. Left to the mercy of Billy’s gang, Reese’s family is killed and he comes back to exact revenge and help the former slaves beat the oppressive plantation owners.
