Kicks

Rough Trade Records is excited to bring you the 1990s' second album of knock out songs; Kicks. Kicks is the follow up to the group's cult hit loaded and hugely acclaimed 2007 debut album; Cookies. The Glasgow three-piece share common origins with Franz Ferdinand, having both spent their early days in influential cult groups, The Yummy Fur and V Twin. 'Kicks' features sassy, infectiously catchy songs mostly concerning ex, current, future and fictional girlfriends but also referencing Mongolian warlords, bears, Baader-Meinhoff and Scientology. Vocal harmonies are to the fore and on the song Kickstrasse Kate Jackson from The Long Blondes adds her voice to proceedings. 'Kicks' is a rock record. a slightly alien rock record, with the band acknowledging a broad range of inspiration, from Scary Monsters/Golden Years era Bowie to Jay-Z, Hall & Oates and even the folk licks of Richard Thompson. The album was recorded at Edwyn Collins' studio in London and is produced by Bernard Butler.
