Africa! A continent of pulsating vibrance and contradiction. Untamed and unpredictable, its size and granduer reflected by the myriad of nations that exist within it. From the Arabic influence of the North, to the African dominance of the South. Where western values are dismissed in a land governed by a character undeinably their own.
Such character is highlighted in its soccer development, where natural flair far outweighs the disciplines of the game in Europe. From humble beginnings, its progress in the last decade has been enormous, first with Cameroon in the 1990 World Cup and then Nigeria as 1996 Olympic Champions. The likelihood of the next Pele or Maradona coming from Africa is very real. Their idols are born on the football field and carry more political weight than most Presidents.
Producer-Director-Writer, Rod Hay, has a wealth of experience in Africa, and over twenty years in the game. He has produced many shows on the importance of the sport.
SEARCH FOR GLORY is a one hour television special, looking at the progress and standing of African football from Casablanca to the Cape. It explores not only the stars of the game, but the influence of their culture and roots on both player and public. It features the role of witchcraft, social politics, traditions and ambitions, blending the mystique with the action and drama in their SEARCH FOR GLORY.
